Maybe it was due to the shimmering witchlight of the Nihilego looming above them – Eddie probably wouldn't have given them much thought, were it not for what he had witnessed in Petalburg. On the other hand, his unsettled nerves could have been caused by the fact that they were descending into the literal bowels of a living god to, what, excavate its insides for goodies? It was kinda gross when Eddie thought about it that way, but Rocket would stop at nothing to harness those insides for themselves. They had already succeeded in that once, [break][break]

“No problem!” he called back to Navy with a smile, stuffing down that creeping anxiety and replacing it with unwavering purpose. The soldier did steal one more glance to those hovering angels above, but only for a moment, [break][break]

“Eh, we can prolly take'em. We got a goddamn dream team down here!” [break][break]

Which was more than true, Eddie thought, when he flashed a broader grin to noah faber next. It was good to see the guy on his feet, though Eddie did wince at the squelching, uncomfortable noise of eggs crushed and mulched by WATER SHURIKEN and BULLET SEED alike. The soldier reached for a little momento from home, and out came a Toedscool in a beam of red, [break][break]

“Alright, Eubert, looks like we're on cleanup duty.” [break][break]

Which was the landbound squid's cue to do his part, too. With a little squeak and a click of his heels, the Toedscool ABSORBed what nutrients could be found in the remnants of the clutch. That was, uh, not exactly the strategy the soldier had in mind, so Eddie grimaced with distaste and recalled the the Pokemon with as much haste as he had released it. [break][break]

He glanced briefly to kyle lopez, too, and found the sight of him almost as unsettling as the Ultra Beasts above. Maybe it was better that the former Champ seemed to be avoiding him, in some way; Eddie felt some strange fear creep in again, like he was looking at a ghost. Hell, he had even seen the guy's ghost, or a thing like it, not all that long ago. But if the others in his company treated his amnesiac presence as just another oddity of Hoenn, who was he to question it?

Eddie's jaw clenched so hard he thought that his molars were going to crack. Navy wasn't some damsel, but for kyle lopez to have some quip about their peril grated him for a moment. At least he had a solid exit plan as the OCTAZOOKA clouded the air around them, hanging heavy in its suspension between them and their aggressor, [break][break]

“Sounds like a plan!” the soldier called back. He tossed another Pokeball, taking only a second to glance between Navy and noah faber and kyle lopez , [break][break]

“But I wanna send this fucker home with a black eye first!” [break][break]

A Donphan emerged next with a trumpeting cry and wasted no time in taking its familiar wheel-like shape as it raced through the curtain of black. The ink would be enough to initially conceal its approach, but not enough for it to avoid the next shower of ACID SPRAY that drenched his gray hide in poison. A mere toxin wouldn't be enough to stave the pachyderm's fury, though; ripping through the space with his HIGH HORSEPOWER, Tennessee was already on a collision course with the Ultra Beast. Eddie took a cautionary step back, ready to recall the Ground-type and book it the moment he got take his eye for an eye. Served the damn squid right, as far as he was concerned.

The Donphan spun and slipped across the flesh-earth of Eternatus' insides, a runaway tire drifting across the battlefield. He probably wasn't eager to leave the fight, Eddie thought, but the soldier wasn't eager to lose him to the Nihilego that now grew to horrific proportions. Eddie had witnessed this kind of scene before; he knew it was time to bring out the big guns. [break][break]

Besides, dogs often ran in packs, didn't they? [break][break]

“On it!” he barked hastily to Navy. [break][break]

And this time, the next of Eddie's team would not be preceded by capsule or blinding red light. Down the echoing chasm of the sleeping god's bowels, thundering footfalls sounded through the space. There was no need to announce Terrakion's arrival; Eddie would know the charge of a raging bull anywhere, [break][break]

“Up there, big guy!” Eddie called as that gray shape came into view, [break][break]

“We got a giant ta kill!” [break][break]

In the wake of the Sword's tremendous charge onto the scene, thick pillars of earth erupted from the ground, jagged claws of rock and grasping stone. The Cavern Pokemon loosed a fierce cry and suddenly the newly-born stalagmites burst from the not-earth around them. They were hurled through the air by some tremendous, unseen force, the STONE's EDGE crashing and shattering more of those barriers with a sound like shattering glass. [break][break]

Eddie grinned with pride and pumped a fist, [break][break]

“Hell yeah! Now that's what I'm talkin' about!” [break][break]

He flashed a thumbs-up to noah faber and kyle lopez. Maybe if he wasn't so swept up in the heady rush of such a brawl, he might have considered the awkwardness of this reunion. On the other hand, Eddie had never been particularly tactful to begin with.
